My piece portrays a hand reaching out from a bed of petals. The painted hand is displayed on an old stretcher from the early 1950s, the reaching out suggests an escape for freedom. The petals flowing beneath signifies a flow of remembrance, a memory to those who lost their lives in the war.
Freedom From Fear, Group Exhibition, 2012.
"Empire of the Sun - Freedom From Fear'' is an exhibition, Inspired by the novelists J.G Ballard, Curated by a group of practicing artists from the University of Lincoln.
The exhibition explores the themes of overcoming the fear of losing the life you once knew by destruction of war and also the separations from family and stability. Held at the Platform at Tower Bar, the audience was invited to explore the interpretations of the book and the nostalgia of being thrown back in time. Presented for a week on the 6th May 2012, the exhibition was a part of the Ballardian festival where 5 more groups of artist lead other exhibitions around Lincoln.
